MASSACHUSETTS STATE BUTTON SOCIETY
MINUTES OF THE BUSINESS MEETING
APRIL 4, 2009
The meeting was called to order at 12:30 p.m. by President Lorna Slysz with 58 members attending.
Future meeting dates were announced: July 18 (Picnic) hosted by Crescent Button Club, September 19 (AMVETS Post 74)
hosted by Monson Button Club, and November 7 (AMVETS Post 74) hosted by Metropolitan Button Club.
(In the 2009 MSBS Bulletin the September and November meeting hosts had been inadvertently reversed.)
Members present today were asked to bring bulletins to fellow club members who could not attend today.
An announcement was made that the minutes of the previous meeting will no longer be read aloud during the Business Meeting.
The minutes will be published on the MSBS website and printed copies will be available at the reception desk on the day of the meeting
for those who do not have on-line access.
Revisions to the MSBS Constitution are being proposed by a previously formed committee. Board Members have been requested
to bring the proposed changes to their local clubs for review and feedback. These revisions will be discussed at the September MSBS meeting
and voting will take place at the Annual Meeting in November.
Pat Knight read the Sunshine report. Christmas cards were sent to: Bettyle Carpenter, Edith Kingsbury, Evelyn Phaneuf and Philla Vaill.
Sympathy cards were sent to: Anne Mull, Linda Karolczuk, and family of Henry Waye, Jr.
Carol Strum, Showroom Manager, reported full advance reservations for all 27 dealer tables for all 2009 shows.
Three disappointed dealers are on the wait list. A proposal made during the Board Meeting was announced and presented for discussion
concerning the possibility of renting an extra room at the AMVETS Post at an additional cost of $45. This room would be used for lunch
and the program. More space would be freed up on the showroom floor. Several possibilities for use of this space were suggested:
6 dealer tables (possibility of more dealers or extra tables for the present dealers, 4 dealer tables and 2 tables to be used for member seating,
and other suggestions. A motion was made to accommodate more dealers, seconded, and the membership voted against this.
The dealer contract process is to remain the same – first come, first served.
Lorna presented a prototype as an idea for the centerpieces for NERBA representing the theme “Look for the Silver Lining”
with a magnifying glass on a long silver ribbon. These would be used radiating from the center of the table and would be made
and donated by the Crescent Button Club. Other local clubs will be responsible for making the actual centerpieces – a small low-profile decoration.
These should be delivered to Lorna at NERBA no later than Saturday a.m.
Deb Hanson, MSBS Webmaster, requested that all clubs report the names of their officers to her on a yearly basis for publication on the website.
Leah Antinick, Secretary, asked that the same information be given to her annually for reporting to National.
The Business Meeting was adjourned, and Lori Plichta presented a fascinating program on “Fabric and Imitation Fabric Buttons”.
Respectfully submitted,
